Russian Troops Try To Pick Up Ukrainian Women On Tinder

Talk about sleeping with the enemy. Russian soldiers poised to invade Ukraine have bombarded women on the other side of the border with Tinder messages. “I actually live in Kyiv but changed my location settings to Kharkiv after a friend told me there were Russian troops all over Tinder,” said one woman. Her app lit up with matches from soldiers named Andrei, Alexander, Gregory, Michail and “Black” some 20 miles away.

“One muscular guy posed up trying to look sexy in bed posing with his pistol. Another was in full Russian combat gear and others just showed off in tight stripy vests,” she said. Many Russian soldiers reportedly “flirted with treachery” as they gave away their military positions, according to Ukrainian military intelligence officials. “These guys are just the same as anyone else on Tinder—they want love or companionship,” she explained.

Bangladesh Blocks Internet Porn

nopornInternet providers in the conservative Muslim-majority nation of Bangladesh (ha, bang) took down pornography after orders from the telecommunications regulator who has said, “this is my war against pornography.” The crackdown was launched after Bangladesh’s High Court in November asked the government to block pornography websites and publication of obscene materials in electronic forms for six months.

Most of the blocked sites are foreign, but a few local websites and social media platforms have also faced action under the crackdown. Local Facebook profiles, YouTube channels and websites that are deemed “provocative” or “go against our social norms” are being actively targeted. Thankfully, many users can still access online porn by using virtual private networks or mirror websites — but as the conservative telecommunications regulator warned, “this will be a continuous war.”

Utah Declares a War On Porn

nopornCongratulations, Utah—you’ve just become the first state in the US to formally declare pornography a “public health crisis.” It’s true. The state’s Senate recently passed an unanimous resolution to crack down on pornography and the “sexually toxic environment” that it perpetuates. Though the resolution didn’t pass any laws, it aims to address “the pornography epidemic that is harming the citizens of Utah and the nation.”

State Senator Todd Weiler recently told Vice that porn is addictive and harmful, and that its consumption “can impact brain development and functioning, contribute to emotional and medical illnesses, and shape deviant sexual arousal.” Utah is a very religious state—60 percent of its residents identify as Mormon—which explains the public condemnation of porn as a “fatal epidemic; like a moral plague.” Many critics are calling Utah out for hypocrisy: the state teaches “abstinence only” in schools, and doesn’t include contraception education in its curriculum, which could account for the high STD rate among teenagers. As studies have shown, when you make sex taboo and shameful, it only fuels sexually risky behavior—maybe it’s time for Utah to include sex-ed in its schools before scapegoating porn for its problems.
