Let The Virginians Fuck

Virginia delegate Mark Levine is back at it again, trying to repeal an existing state law that made consensual sex with an unmarried person illegal. The punishment for the crime of fornication is a $250 fine, charged to both parties, and Levine believes it time to (finally) repeal it. “We should not have laws that make most of the population into criminals,” he said.

Virginia isn’t the only state with archaic anti-fornication laws—in Idaho, fornicators can serve up to six months in prison if found guilty. In North Carolina, fornication or cohabitation with a member of the opposite sex is considered a class two felony, with six days in prison and a $1000 fine. Our hats off to Levine, who’s got a real hard-on for justice!

Virginia Just Banned Deepfake Porn

Virginia’s 2014 law banning the distribution of revenge porn has been updated to include deepfakes, or videos in which software and machine learning can create synthetic media of any person. The law makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor to share videos or photos of someone without their consent, even if it is not actually them in the video. Photoshopped images or any other manipulated media are also covered by the law, and violators can face up to $2,500 and one year in jail.

The law is going into effect after the app DeepNude was pulled by its creator due to backlash. The app used machine learning to produce videos of women without clothing from videos of them fully clothed, and comes in the wake of porn being shared on Reddit featuring the faces of famous women and the bodies of porn stars. As Daily Dot reports, “Forty-six states currently have laws barring the distribution of revenge porn, but only a handful of states have set out to legislate deepfakes.”

Virginia Lawmakers Claim Porn Leads to Orgies

best_phone_sex_niteflirt_orgyYou’ve heard the claim that marijuana is a gateway drug, but have you ever heard that porn is a gateway—to orgies? If you’re a Virginian, you might have: the lawmakers there are jumping on the anti-porn legislation bandwagon in a way that’s even strange for these hysterical pearl-clutchers. Apparently, they think that not only is pornography harmful and toxic, but it also leads to an increased risk of—oh, the humanity!—having group sex.

The Virginia House recently passed the resolution, which will go to the Senate, warning about somehow pernicious porn-fueled orgies: “use of pornography, by either partner, is linked to an increased likelihood that individuals will engage in group intercourse.” As Daily Dot explains, “The implication being both that porn causes group intercourse and also that group intercourse is somehow a problem.” Not surprisingly, the resolution’s supporters are not able to provide any evidence that there is in fact a porn-orgy link, but even if they did, wouldn’t that just make porn even more appealing?
