7350054890_99bf861756_oCocktail retailers in the UK were forced to change the name of their Porn Star Martini after receiving complaints it was too “sexual.” The passion fruit alcoholic drink sparked an outcry from a campaign group for “normalising porn.” Despite being one of Britain’s most popular choices on a cocktail menu, the company had to rename the drink a Passion Star Martini.

The public immediately responded with backlash: “If you continue to allow this, it will open the floodgates to others e.g. Sex on the Beach, Slippery Nipple, Sloe Comfortable Screw, Liquid Viagra etc.” Another person said online, “You do realise that a pornstar martini, has nothing to do with Porn. It’s a modern classic cocktail, served in every cocktail bar in the UK.” The drink’s creator also chimed in by saying, “The drink is very evocative and tantalising. I called it Pornstar because I thought it was something that a porn star would drink, there’s nothing sexual there.”

Viewing Porn From Parliament’s Computers Is Being Kept Secret

For years Parliament has routinely disclosed information on websites viewed from its network – revealing that up to 200,000 bids to surf X-rated sites have been blocked a year. The authorities have always argued that most of the efforts to view porn were inadvertent or down to so-called malware.

But now Parliament is claiming that it won’t reveal the information because it “may present a security risk if it were to remain publicly accessible.”  Previous sites have even been deleted from the Parliamentary transparency log. As a security expert says, “How is it a security risk to know that a bunch of (predominantly) middle-aged white guys prefer to browse for porn in the office rather than on their home PCs (where their wives might notice)?”

A pair of activists are fighting the U.K. government’s measure to implement age-verification for online porn providers. Obscenity lawyer Myles Jackman and feminist pornographer Pandora Blake initiated a resistance campaign called ResistAV: Legal Challenge that’s currently raising funds to challenge the proposed law. They argue that porn age-verification could compromise user privacy by enabling porn website users’ personal data to be collected, open to hacking, or sold to third-parties.

The U.K. government would not provide the software to require users to verify their age, but instead would rely on third-parties—the major concern for privacy and porn advocates. Activists argue this could potentially lead to data misuse or data breaches if personal identifiers are collected, stored improperly, or sold. “Without specific privacy controls embedded in the legislation, there is a very real risk of U.K. adults’ porn habits being outed. The government’s ill-conceived age-verification regime puts up to 25 million U.K. adults at risk,” said the activists.

U.K. Adults May Have To Buy ‘Porn Passes’

New age verification laws set to be implemented later this year would require anyone who wants to view pornographic websites to buy a “porn pass” from the corner store. The U.K. is cracking down on underage porn watching, which is why it wants to require the estimated 25 million citizens who regularly visit adult websites to prove they’re not underage.

These passes will cost around $14. To prove their age, buyers will have to present a passport or driver’s license to the shopkeeper. “A wide variety of online age verification solutions exist, or are in development, and they will have to abide by these high standards,” said a spokesperson. Way to live up to your stuffy, prudish stereotype, the U.K.
