There’s a new UK documentary about straight men who prefer trans women called Sex Diaries: Trans Lovers. It offers a fascinating glimpse into a still taboo subject—which director Charlie Russell admitted wasn’t an easy feat, considering his difficulty with finding men to discuss their relationships with trans women. Russell considers in the intro, “Is this a new kind of relationship, one that is neither gay, straight, or bi, but perhaps something entirely different instead?”
What was especially interesting to the director is why these straight-identified men seek out women who have penises. There is no simple answer to that, and the men who were interviewed often didn’t know themselves. One man said that he found transsexual women beautiful; another said he liked that trans women were “easier” to fuck than cisgender women, since they seem to know what men want. Many of the trans women also chimed in on the phenomenon, with one lady saying that “A guy who wants to be with a transsexual obviously wants someone with a dick, so he wants a woman who uses her dick.” Another woman was thrilled that she finally found a nice guy: “All you’ve had is men before treating you like a piece of meat, basically, and it’s not nice.”
