‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Sean Bean Says Intimacy Coordinators ‘Spoil’ Sex Scenes

“Game of Thrones” star Sean Bean claims intimacy coordinators on set “spoil the spontaneity” of a sex scene. In an interview, Bean said an intimacy coordinator personally “inhibits [him] more.” “I should imagine it slows down the thrust of it. Ha, not the thrust, that’s the wrong word,” Bean said.

“Somebody saying, ‘Do this, put your hand there, while you touch his thing …’” the actor added. “I think the natural way lovers behave would be ruined by someone bringing it right down to a technical exercise.” He compared his experiences with intimacy coordinators to his time filming the 1993 adaptation of “Lady Chatterley’s Lover.” He shared, “‘Lady Chatterley’ was spontaneous. It was joy. We had a good chemistry between us, and we knew what we were doing was unusual. Because she was married, I was married. But we were following the story.”

There are new tricks to the trade, according to the season 2 stars of “Bridgerton.” The leading man, Jonathan Bailey, recently revealed what goes into the show’s infamously streamy sex scenes. “It’s amazing how that whole industry has just come on, even in a year. There are new tricks to the trade—little cushions—and it’s amazing what you can do with a half-inflated netball.”

Meanwhile, Simone Ashley, who stars as Kate, said that she wasn’t nervous about all the sex and nudity. “I’ve always been really confident in my sexuality and in my body. Intimacy Coordinator Reveals What Happens When Actors Get Aroused While Filming

It might not shock you to hear that many actors get aroused while filming sex scenes. Arousal is very normal, as the actors “are going through the physical and the mind, so yeah, it happens,” an intimacy coordinator recently said in an interview. “Just making it really clear that’s normal and that the worst thing you can do is carry on,” he revealed, adding that coordinators should be clear that, “Hey, this can happen.”

He added that a “time-out” is called for the stars to collect themselves. “The worst thing we can do is gawk or make it a massive deal,” he continued. The star of Netflix’s Bridgerton said her intimacy coordinator helped her with many of the show’s racy sex scenes: “We did the intimate scenes like stunts—we blocked them out, so you have yoga balls in between you and all sorts of things that never make you feel exposed in any way.”

‘Game of Thrones’ Sex Scenes Were A ‘Mess,’ Actress Gemma Whelan Reveals

Turns out those wild sex scenes on “Game of Thrones” were actually pretty wild on-set, too. Actress Gemma Whelan who played Yara Greyjoy—and starred in many a GoT sex scene—recently revealed what it was really like shooting the show’s infamous sex scenes. Whelan said the cast were excellent at confirming consent and taking care of each other, despite often going off of limited direction.

“They used to just say, ‘When we shout action, go for it!,’ and it could be a sort of frenzied mess,” Whelan told the Guardian. “There was a scene in a brothel with a woman and she was so exposed that we talked together about where the camera would be and what she was happy with. A director might say, ‘Bit of boob biting, then slap her bum and go!,’ but I’d always talk it through with the other actor.” She added that actors were “almost literally” simply left to get it on with each other.

‘Bad Sex In Fiction’ Award Canceled For 2020

The judges of the annual Bad Sex in Fiction award decided to spare readers this year from the usual cringeworthy passages. It seems fictional bad sex is just too much for folks to handle in the hellish coronavirus pandemic-stricken year of 2020. The judges of the annual prize “felt that the public had been subjected to too many bad things this year to justify exposing it to bad sex as well,” the magazine said.

“With lockdown regulations giving rise to all manner of novel sexual practices, the judges anticipate a rash of entries next year. Authors are reminded that cybersex and other forms of home entertainment fall within the purview of this award,” a spokesperson for the judges said in a statement. “Scenes set in fields, parks or back yards, or indoors with the windows open and fewer than six people present will not be exempt from scrutiny either,” the spokesperson added. Since 1993, the Bad Sex in Fiction Award has honored the year’s “most outstandingly awful scene of sexual description in an otherwise good novel”—past winners include Tom Wolfe and Morrissey.

Movie Sex Scenes Will Be Replaced With CGI To Cut Coronavirus Risk

It seems digital sex is all the rage these days—just ask Hollywood. As Tinseltown prepares to reopen,  on-set sexual distancing protocols are beginning to be laid out—including animated fucking. The film editors’ trade association has released a 22-page file dictating how “close contact moments” should be “either rewritten, abandoned” or replaced with computer-generated imagery (CGI) to minimize spreading COVID-19 while filming.

The new rules were presented to the governors of New York and California recently as evidence that Hollywood is ready for “action” (no pun intended). Studios are also considering implementing tactics long utilized in the world of the porn, including rigorous testing and a database that lists who is clean and available for work. “The challenges for sports, for Hollywood and the porn industry are all different, but in reality, we each have things we can learn from each other,” says the rep for the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the US adult entertainment industry.
