Dance Naked Creative Takes A Sex-Positive Approach To Theater

The artistic director explained whether she’s delivering a monologue about a guy going down on her in a cabin or creating a show about her days as a “terrible” dominatrix in New York City, she wants to find out “What is the experience like for people?” When she started Dance Naked Creative in 2005, she wanted to offer a perspective that could surprise playgoers.

“What I knew that I wanted to make was theater that was a positive lens on sexuality, because I felt like a lot of what I saw was trauma,” she says. Her approach has resonated with audiences—she will perform her show Plan V: The Joyful Cult of Pussy Worship this summer at London’s Vagina Museum and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. “Shame thrives in darkness,” she says, “and in the theater, we’re literally shining a light on it.”

Sex Positive Mormon Gets Ousted From The Faith

A sex therapist in Utah who has publicly challenged her faith’s policies on sexuality has been kicked out of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following a disciplinary hearing. “After carefully and prayerfully considering this matter,” the letter states, “it was the decision of the council to withdraw your church membership in response to conduct contrary to the law and order of the church.” The withdrawal of a person’s membership by church leaders amounts to the harshest punishment available for a member of the faith—it used to be called excommunication.

The sex therapist has been outspoken on sexual issues and supports same-sex marriage, counsels that masturbation is not a sin and says pornography should not be treated as an addiction. Church members are taught not to have sex before marriage, engage in passionate kissing, touch another person sexually, or arouse “emotions in your own body” that are supposed to be reserved for marriage. Gay sex is also forbidden even if a person is married or in a relationship.

She posted an X-rated photo on Twitter, saying “Every $10 you donate = one nude picture from me to your DM. You must send me confirmation that you donated.”

The tweet blew up immediately, and just a few days later, she estimated that more than $1 million in donations had been generated. “We had some people who donated a lot of money,” she said. “One person $5,000 and at least 10 people $1,000. Those we made sure we had their name and a second verification of the payment,” she said. She estimated that she and a small team she hired to respond to the requests have now sent 10,000 nude photos—although the demand has been so overwhelming that they’ve had to stop.
