Pornhub is proving nerdy is sexy in an unusual and amazing way with its second annual Pornhub Cares Scholarship. The massive porn site awarded University of Michigan grad student Natalie Nevarez $25,000 to work on her doctoral thesis in biopsychology. The scholarship was created to celebrate and support “outstanding women pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) exclusively,” in hopes that historically underrepresented women in STEM fields will make the world a better place.
Nevarez stood out to the competition’s judges not only because of her compelling personal story—she’s the daughter of Mexican migrant fruit pickers—but also because of the exciting research she conducts. In her audition video, she describes her interest in the neurobiology of monogamy, and how brain chemistry affects monogamous relationships in prairie voles. “It has a lot of applications for human health and I’m personally very interested in drug addiction and social relationships so I’m hoping to keep doing that after I graduate,” she said in the video. Right on, women in STEM and the mega porn sites that support them!
