Lesbian sex scenes are the gifts that keeps on giving, according to Kate Winslet. Winslet recently admitted that she purposefully scheduled one of the many sex scenes in her new movie so that it would be filmed on her costar’s Saoirse Ronan’s birthday. The new lesbian movie she’s starring in with Ronan is a love story about a secret affair in the 19th century.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kate said, “I just wanted her to have, frankly, a great memory in her film life, regardless of how the scene played out or the movie turned out.” Yes, she wanted Saoirse Ronan to get to experience lesbian sex on her birthday because she knew it would be memorable! Kate continued, “I knew that it would be [great] just because of the experience that we would share together. I knew that it would be very equal.”

Kate Winslet Discusses Choreographing Her Lesbian Sex Scenes In Upcoming Film

Kate Winslet is no stranger to sex scenes and nudity on screen, but her newest flick seems to take her talents to the next level. “Ammonite” is a lesbian period romance starring Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. The movie is loosely inspired by the life of paleontologist Mary Anning, played by Kate, and follows her girl-on-girl romance with geologist Charlotte Murchison.

In a new interview, Kate opened up about shooting some of the more explicit sex scenes with Saoirse—which the pair choreographed themselves. She said that she told the director, “‘We’ll start here. We’ll do this with the kissing, boobs, you go down there, then you do this, then you climb up here.’” She added that it was especially empowering to do a nude sex scene as a “real fortysomething, post-children,” explaining, “I felt the proudest I’ve ever felt doing a love scene on Ammonite. And I felt by far the least self-conscious.”
