Amsterdam Considers Moving Prostitution From Red Light To ‘Erotic Center’

Amsterdam’s mayor has a controversial plan to move legal prostitution from the city’s historic red light district to a suburban “erotic center.” Hundreds of angry locals who do not want a “mega brothel” in their neighborhood found themselves on the same side as sex workers who want to stay in their red neon booths. The mayor has proposed three sites for a 100-room erotic center in the city’s south, to shutter the current red light district that has been at the center of complaints in the area.

But sex workers insist they want to stay in the red light district—which has been a center for prostitution since the 16th century. While it would take several years before any new “erotic center” will take shape, the city municipality is aiming to decide on the location by the end of the year. The city also launched a “Stay Away” campaign aimed at “nuisance” tourists who visit the city for sex and other debauchery.

Amsterdam Looks To Ban Red Light District Sex Workers From Windows

Amsterdam’s world-famous red-light district could look very different going forward as the Dutch city prepares to vote on an ordinance that would permanently close brothel window curtains. The plan, proposed by the liberal D66 party, would mean the brothel curtains stay shut, and instead of sex workers being able to entice potential customers from the window, clients would book appointments using a QR code on their smartphones. Some sex workers have voiced opposition to the plan, arguing it will hurt their business and make them less safe by preventing them from assessing potential dangers a client might pose.

“How can I attract clients with the curtains closed?” a sex worker asked. “They say it is for my protection, but that is nonsense. If someone denigrates me, I denigrate them back. It isn’t an automatic service I negotiate. If drunk people come, I don’t let them in.” In addition to addressing the curtains in the red-light district, the measure will make other changes to crack down on “nuisance tourism,” including banning marijuana smoking in public areas, closing bars at 2 a.m. instead of 4 a.m., and closing window brothels at 3 a.m. instead of 6 a.m.

Porn Theme Park Opens In Tokyo With Porn Stars Serving Guests

An adult film company in Japan has opened a five-story “adults only” theme park in the heart of Tokyo’s red light district, with various attractions staffed by professional porn stars. The company has dubbed the porn star-staffed theme attraction in Japan an “amusement park for adults,” and each floor of the park has a different theme. One floor is advertised as a “Newcomer Adult Film Actress Floor,” where visitors are served by new and upcoming porn stars.

Another floor lets guests talk and mingle with more well-known adult film stars. There’s also an area called the Kakubutsu Salon that offers “erotic massages” and other “entertainment services of a risqué nature.” The XXX company previously opened an adult video virtual reality location in Tokyo before opening the porn theme park.

Sex Booths Proposed For Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport

The mayor of the city’s central Mitte district is proposing ‘Verichtungsboxen’ boxes – booths where sex workers receive their clientele – be set up at Tempelhof Airport. His proposal for the establishment of the sex booths would include drive-in booths where customers can meet sex workers in their own vehicles.

The proposal came as part of a discussion about street prostitution in his district and how to improve the safety of Berlin’s sex workers. As well as the parking areas at the former airport on Templehofer Damm, he also proposed the central fairground in the Mitte district, or the area under the viaduct of the line U2 at the Bülowbogen as potential sites for the sex booths. “Publicly controlled performance boxes can improve working conditions, especially women’s safety, and reduce the negative impact of prostitution on the living environment,” he said.

Scientists Say Humans Will Be Having Lots Of Sex In Self-Driving Cars

The paper published in the Annals of Tourism Research concludes that the increased time people spend in autonomous vehicles will result in a surge of car sex. With one recent study finding that close to 60 percent of all Americans have had sex in a car, the study’s author argues it’s “not a big leap” to suggest that the practice will only increase.

“That led us to think, besides sleeping, what other things will people do in cars when free from the task of driving?” the author said. He added that the sex industry will also naturally move to self-driving cars: “It’s not impossible or that far-fetched to imagine the red light district on the move.” He also thinks that car manufacturers might start designing their vehicle cabins around sex in the near future.

Amsterdam Mayor Opens Brothel Run By Sex Workers

The new brothel occupies 14 “windows” across four buildings in Amsterdam’s red light district, allowing about 40 sex workers to operate out of the premises. “Everything in this project, from the statutes to the decoration of the rooms, is thought out by sex workers,” said one of the sex workers involved. “It is my hope that it will offer pleasant workspaces, where sex workers can be who they are and feel welcome.”

The goal of the initiative is for sex workers to be able to work independently, free to determine their own rental terms and working hours, and to socialize and help each other deal with things like negotiating and unpleasant customers. It’s being dubbed the “municipal brothel” because of the city’s role in the project, but the hope is to “emancipate” sex workers by giving them a chance to “acquire knowledge, experience and a position to develop themselves,” as a person on the initiative explains. According to one male prostitute, “All sex workers working together on a shared, emancipatory goal. That’s something very special.”
