Adult Content Creators Say This Porn Category Has Skyrocketed In Popularity

Porn industry experts have released new data to prove a growing trend in the porn world—namely, that we all “like (big) butts and cannot lie.” As a search category, “anal” has grown tremendously over the past few decades, dominating the current adult content landscape. Adult star Nina Hartley—who began working in the porn industry during the 1980s—also vouched for “anal’s” popularity over the past few years, saying “Anything anal has grown in popularity since I first began my career.”

Industry analytics reinforce her point: in 2015, Pornhub and Vice revealed that Americans’ anal-themed Pornhub searches increased by 120% from 2009 to 2015. In 2016, the Independent reported that “more than half” of all porn featured some form of anal sex, and by 2018, Pornhub listed anal as its sixth most popular category, beating out “threesome,” “big tits,” and “transgender.” Researchers also imply anal sex’s NSFW popularity mirrors real-life interest in porn, citing a 2010 study that revealed over 30% of women had tried anal sex by 24 compared to 16% in 1992.

Searching ‘Lesbian’ On Google No Longer Shows Porn First

After years of Googling ‘lesbian’ and getting porn in the search results, the search engine has finally changed its algorithm to show educational material first. Google implemented this change in response to mounting criticism, particularly in France. “Critics argued that by placing pornography and other sexualized images of lesbians before their history or other informative content, Google contributed to a culture that oversexualizes lesbians and treats them as entertainment,” explains Daily Dot.

A Twitter user was the first to call out Google during Pride month when, even with a Stonewall remembrance banner atop the page, the top search results for “lesbian” linked to porn. Google’s vice president of search engine quality later said the search results for the term lesbian, “are terrible, there is no doubt about it.” While Google never made an official announcement, the Twitter user who first called out Google tweeted that the Wikipedia page for lesbians is now the top search result.

Virginia Just Banned Deepfake Porn

Virginia’s 2014 law banning the distribution of revenge porn has been updated to include deepfakes, or videos in which software and machine learning can create synthetic media of any person. The law makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor to share videos or photos of someone without their consent, even if it is not actually them in the video. Photoshopped images or any other manipulated media are also covered by the law, and violators can face up to $2,500 and one year in jail.

The law is going into effect after the app DeepNude was pulled by its creator due to backlash. The app used machine learning to produce videos of women without clothing from videos of them fully clothed, and comes in the wake of porn being shared on Reddit featuring the faces of famous women and the bodies of porn stars. As Daily Dot reports, “Forty-six states currently have laws barring the distribution of revenge porn, but only a handful of states have set out to legislate deepfakes.”

Parliament claims attempts to access porn from its computers are being kept secret to stop MPs falling victim to hackers. As a security expert says, “How is it a security risk to know that a bunch of (predominantly) middle-aged white guys prefer to browse for porn in the office rather than on their home PCs (where their wives might notice)?”

Facebook and Google Can See What Porn You’re Watching

Facebook, Google and Oracle cloud are secretly tracking the porn you watch, according to a new joint study from Microsoft, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of Pennsylvania. Researchers investigated 22,484 sex sites to expose tracking tools funneling data back to third parties. “Our results indicate tracking is endemic on pornography websites: 93% of pages leak user data to a third-party,” the study finds.

Researchers discovered that Google and its various outlets had trackers on 74% of the top porn sites, Oracle had 24% and Facebook 10%, study authors report. Even if you’re in “incognito” mode and aren’t storing porn in your browser history, the data still gets fed to these third parties. Even worse: researchers discovered that only 17% of the porn sites were encrypted, which leaves lots of opportunities for what study authors refer to as “widespread data leakage” and hacker “sextortion.”

Porn Age Verification Plans Are Being Put On Hold In The UK, Again

The porn age verification system in the UK—which was supposed to start on July 15th—has been “indefinitely delayed.” It seems the system’s legal basis was apparently undermined by the government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media, & Sport (DCMS) failing to inform the European Commission. Back in 2017, an age verification system was passed for people wanting to access porn websites, but it quickly attracted the concern of privacy campaigners worried about millions of people having to hand over potentially sensitive data.

“It might lead to people being outed,” said the executive director for privacy campaign group Open Rights Group. “It could also be you’re a teacher with an unusual sexual preference and your pupils get to know that as a result of a leak. It won’t get you sacked for viewing something legal but it could destroy your reputation.” Ultimately, the government agreed, issuing a statement saying, “While it’s very embarrassing to delay age verification for the third time, this is an opportunity for the Government to address the many problems that this ill-thought through policy poses.”

“In other words, pornography use for women is associated with increased thoughts of pornography during sexual encounters. And increased pornography thoughts is associated with increased appearance insecurity and decreased enjoyment of intimate acts during sex,” reports NY Post. One of the study’s researchers adds, “Women with higher rates of viewing pornography were more likely to experience thoughts about pornography during sex with a partner, rely on those thoughts to obtain or maintain excitement, or report a preference for pornography over sex with a partner.” When watching porn goes wrong…
