Belgian Mayor Apologizes For Town’s Phallic Christmas Decorations

A Belgian mayor made quite a boner this year (pun intended). Officials were originally thinking of candles, but then decided a flame at the top of the white column was a cliché and so they put in a blue ball instead. It was not long before residents realized the new festive decor looked more like a dick than anything to do with Christmas.

The mayor said that the decorations, consisting of a long shaft with a bulbous blue tip, did not appear quite so phallic until they were turned on. He said, “I only realized it myself when they were illuminated. But we have to see the humor in this.” The mayor added, “Let’s just say that we will have the country’s most talked-about Christmas lights this year.”

Gay Political Candidate Engulfed In Sex Scandal Won’t Apologize For Having Sex

Democratic political candidate Alex Morse has had his campaign overtaken by a sex scandal—and he would like the record to show that, yes, he does have sex. His Tinder profile has come under scrutiny, as well as his using gay dating apps to hook up with consenting adult men. He says, “It’s important to be unapologetically myself — being gay and a young person and someone who has sex, and I won’t apologize for being gay and using gay dating apps and going on dates with other adult men.”

His insistence on continuing in the race and now speaking openly and without shame about his sex life was intended to confront “these unspoken rules about what it is and what it takes to be in office.” He said, “Long after this election, I think this country needs to reckon with our puritanical fantasy about people’s sex lives and these heteronormative expectations put on all of us, including all of us in the queer community.” He added, “It’s a fantasy that elected officials don’t have sex lives. It’s a dangerous narrative and it’s a conversation that needs to happen.”

Amsterdam Mayor Opens Brothel Run By Sex Workers

Copy-of-Stripper_on_a_Pole_svgIn an attempt to empower sex workers and improve working conditions in the red light district, the mayor of Amsterdam will open a brothel run by the prostitutes themselves. The new brothel occupies 14 “windows” across four buildings in Amsterdam’s red light district, allowing about 40 sex workers to operate out of the premises. “Everything in this project, from the statutes to the decoration of the rooms, is thought out by sex workers,” said one of the sex workers involved. “It is my hope that it will offer pleasant workspaces, where sex workers can be who they are and feel welcome.”

The goal of the initiative is for sex workers to be able to work independently, free to determine their own rental terms and working hours, and to socialize and help each other deal with things like negotiating and unpleasant customers. It’s being dubbed the “municipal brothel” because of the city’s role in the project, but the hope is to “emancipate” sex workers by giving them a chance to “acquire knowledge, experience and a position to develop themselves,” as a person on the initiative explains. According to one male prostitute, “All sex workers working together on a shared, emancipatory goal. That’s something very special.”
