Queer YouTubers Are Getting In Trouble For Sex Toy Sponsorships

gaypo0rnFor queer creators, especially those who create sex education videos, YouTube’s content policies make it near-impossible to make money on the platform. Queer YouTubers have been fighting with the platform and its policies for years, and now a group of LGBTQIA YouTubers filed a class-action lawsuit against YouTube for unfairly restricting and demonetizing their videos. To fund sex-ed videos, many YouTubers have turned to sponsorships with sex toy companies, which supposedly violates YouTube’s rules against “content that contains nudity and is meant to be sexually gratifying.”

One of the affected YouTubers shared the email they got from YouTube, in which a YouTube spokesperson admitted “we incorrectly issued strikes on videos with links to an adult toy site.” They added, “When this was brought to our attention, we worked quickly to resolve the strikes for all affected creators.” Mistake or not, as the class-action lawsuit indicates, some LGBTQIA YouTubers feel that their videos are placed under unfair scrutiny.

Searching ‘Lesbian’ On Google No Longer Shows Porn First

After years of Googling ‘lesbian’ and getting porn in the search results, the search engine has finally changed its algorithm to show educational material first. Google implemented this change in response to mounting criticism, particularly in France. “Critics argued that by placing pornography and other sexualized images of lesbians before their history or other informative content, Google contributed to a culture that oversexualizes lesbians and treats them as entertainment,” explains Daily Dot.

A Twitter user was the first to call out Google during Pride month when, even with a Stonewall remembrance banner atop the page, the top search results for “lesbian” linked to porn. Google’s vice president of search engine quality later said the search results for the term lesbian, “are terrible, there is no doubt about it.” While Google never made an official announcement, the Twitter user who first called out Google tweeted that the Wikipedia page for lesbians is now the top search result.

J.K. Rowling Discusses The ‘Sexual Dimension’ Of Dumbledore

“Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship. I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship.” Obviously, sex won’t feature prominently in the upcoming movie, but fans—particularly LGBTQ fans—are curious to know whether Dumbledore will be portrayed as a gay man. As Daily Dot says, “People are invested in this idea because it’s rare to see queer characters in mainstream blockbusters, and Rowling has drawn a lot of attention to Dumbledore’s sexuality without actually exploring it in the text of the movies.”

Infamous Gay Conversion Therapist Comes Out As Gay

Now, he recently wrote a Facebook post confirming his orientation, and apologizing for the harm he’s done to thousands: “Not that I would excuse myself, but any shortcomings I had as a therapist came from too narrow a view of what ‘emotionally healthy’ can look like,” he wrote.

Conversion therapy, which has been denounced by the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association, has been banned in 15 states. Truth Wins Out says, “Conversion therapy employs guilt and shame to browbeat desperate and vulnerable people into renouncing their humanity.” Truth Wins Out also had this to say about Matheson’s apology:

“While I am pleased for Mr. Matheson that he has found a path forward for his life, I can’t help but think of the hundreds if not thousands of people who are still stuck in the closet, a closet that was created in part by Mr. Matheson himself. I hope that Mr. Matheson will do whatever he can to rectify the harm that he’s inflicted on many people in the LGBTQ community.”

One lesbian couple in Japan is protesting LBGTQ rights in style. The couple is pushing back against their union not being recognized in Japan by marrying 26 times across the world in nations where same-sex marriage in legal. “I want to show through our wedding photos that being lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) is normal so that those who are troubled by their sexual status can harbor hope,” Misato Kawasaki said.

They’re calling the project the “26-time marriage,” a six-month tour through parts of Europe, Africa, North and South America. They will wed 26 times and interview local Japanese same-sex couples and officials about their rights and cultural attitudes in the area. The lesbian couple is seeking funds to cover costs for the trip, and will share their findings and hope to create a company that offers wedding services for the LGBTQ community.
