Porn Age Verification Plans Are Being Put On Hold In The UK, Again

Image Source: Pixland via Getty Images The porn age verification system in the UK—which was supposed to start on July 15th—has been “indefinitely delayed.” It seems the system’s legal basis was apparently undermined by the government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media, & Sport (DCMS) failing to inform the European Commission. Back in 2017, an age verification system was passed for people wanting to access porn websites, but it quickly attracted the concern of privacy campaigners worried about millions of people having to hand over potentially sensitive data.

“It might lead to people being outed,” said the executive director for privacy campaign group Open Rights Group. “It could also be you’re a teacher with an unusual sexual preference and your pupils get to know that as a result of a leak. It won’t get you sacked for viewing something legal but it could destroy your reputation.” Ultimately, the government agreed, issuing a statement saying, “While it’s very embarrassing to delay age verification for the third time, this is an opportunity for the Government to address the many problems that this ill-thought through policy poses.”

Sex Work Would Be Legalized In New York Under New Bill

inflatable-tubeNew York state is debating legalizing and lifting criminal penalties for sex work. The new bill, which has been written with DecrimNY, would make it legal to buy and sell sex under certain circumstances. Supporters say criminal penalties for prostitution haven’t worked, and legalization would improve sex worker safety while reducing trafficking and exploitation.

They claim many sex workers rely on their jobs to make ends meet, and that laws against prostitution only hurt vulnerable people with few other options. “For us, this is a bodily autonomy issue—our bodies, our choice—but more than that, it’s an economic issue. And it’s personal,” said DecrimNY. DecrimNY also tweeted, “.@DickGottfried reminds us that once upon a time, sex outside of marriage was criminalized, and not long ago, marriage between two people of the same gender was criminalized. Decriminalization of sex work is next!”

Utah Officially Allows Citizens To Have Sex Outside Marriage

white-1822497_640While you might think this is a headline from the year 1900, it is actually much more recent. Utah has just signed a law allowing unmarried people to have sex without breaking the law. Until recently, that was a class B misdemeanor under a 1973 law that carried a possible penalty of up to six months in jail or a maximum fine of $1,000.

Though it was neither enforced or prosecuted, it wasn’t until recently that Utah signed a similar bill that repealed the misdemeanor offenses of adultery and sodomy among consenting adults. Known as “offenses against the family,” the crimes were unenforceable because of court rulings on what consenting adults can do in private. As one Utah citizen said, “Basically just like, ‘Oh thank God, I can do this thing I’ve always been doing.’”

Hefner’s Sex Tapes Appear in Cosby’s Civil Case

The news about Hugh Hefner’s personal porn stash keeps on coming. Even though the majority of his tapes were reportedly dropped into the ocean in a cement-lined coffin some time ago, he still had some salacious material left to be introduced into just one of many civil trials still set coming against Bill Cosby.

Florida-based lawyer Spencer Kuvin claims to introduce the tapes in question, many of which are said by the Daily Mail to be “professionally edited and produced”, on behalf of his client, 28-year-old Chloe Gains. Cosby is already behind bars in a state prison for a minimum of 3 years for sexual assault, with 33 civil cases still down the pipeline for similar allegations. Kuvin’s claimed he and his team have spent “hundreds of hours” watching those tapes… probably not what they expected to do when they passed the bar!

Looking for a safe, allegation-free experience? We’ve got that for you here at NiteFlirt!

U.K.’s New Porn Law Is Being Challenged In Court

A pair of activists are fighting the U.K. government’s measure to implement age-verification for online porn providers. Obscenity lawyer Myles Jackman and feminist pornographer Pandora Blake initiated a resistance campaign called ResistAV: Legal Challenge that’s currently raising funds to challenge the proposed law. They argue that porn age-verification could compromise user privacy by enabling porn website users’ personal data to be collected, open to hacking, or sold to third-parties.

The U.K. government would not provide the software to require users to verify their age, but instead would rely on third-parties—the major concern for privacy and porn advocates. Activists argue this could potentially lead to data misuse or data breaches if personal identifiers are collected, stored improperly, or sold. “Without specific privacy controls embedded in the legislation, there is a very real risk of U.K. adults’ porn habits being outed. The government’s ill-conceived age-verification regime puts up to 25 million U.K. adults at risk,” said the activists.

India Finally Legalizes Gay Sex

India scrapped a colonial-era ban on gay sex in a new landmark Supreme Court ruling. Gay sex is considered taboo by many in socially conservative India, and had previously been punishable by up to 10 years in jail. But a five-judge bench in India’s Supreme Court was unanimous in overturning the ban recently.

The bigoted law held that sex between members of the same sex was “against the order of nature.” Five petitioners challenged the law on the grounds that it was discriminatory since it unfairly prosecutes consenting adults. “Any consensual sexual relationship between two consenting adults – homosexuals, heterosexuals or lesbians – cannot be said to be unconstitutional,” said the Chief Justice of India as he read out the judgement to cheering citizens. Congrats, India: at last, love wins!

Rhode Island Wants To Charge Citizens $20 To Access Internet Porn

best_phone_sex_niteflirt_moneysexRhode Island lawmakers want citizens to pay an entry charge to watch adult entertainment online. In an attempt to regulate “sexual content or potentially offensive material,” two democrats proposed a bill that, if passed, would force internet-service providers to enable a “digital content blocking capability” to target sexual content as defined under the state statute. That is, depictions and descriptions of sex, whether “normal or perverted, actual or simulated,” “sadomasochistic abuse,” and images of masturbation—in other words, all porn would be banned.

Unfortunately, now that net neutrality rules have been repealed, the porn-blocking bill could actually become a law. Opponents of the bill are pointing out that it violates the First Amendment’s free speech protections, not to mention all the crucial bits of information the bill leaves out. It doesn’t specify who decides what is considered sexual content or clarify how the lawmakers even came up with a $20 fee. Come on, Rhode Island—instead of a porn fee, just let porn be free!

Michigan Finally Wants To Ban Police From Legally Having Sex With Prostitutes

trumppeefaceSoon, Michigan police might need to give up a very unique job perk. A bill advancing in the state legislature would ban Michigan police from having legal sex with prostitutes during undercover investigations. Lawmakers say Michigan is the last state in the union that offers police officers immunity from prosecution if they have have paid sex while undercover.

“This is pretty significant when you’re the only state left in the country who still makes allowances for undercover police to accommodate sexual intercourse. And finally we’re to the point where we need to eradicate this law and repeal it and get rid of it,” Republican Senator Judy Emmons said. The Michigan police claim that they do not take advantage of the immunity offered under the law, but regardless, “it’s still on the books,” as Emmons says. The legislation will move on to the state House after it was unanimously approved in the Michigan Senate. God bless America!

Porn Site Reroutes Utah Traffic To Sex Ed Videos

LetsTalkSexThe popular porn site xHamster has the perfect response to Utah lawmaker’s recent decision to reject a bill that would have offered parents the choice of opting their children into comprehensive sex ed as an alternative to abstinence-only education: it’s sending traffic to the site from Utah to sex ed videos! “Beginning immediately, we’re rerouting all xHamster traffic from Utah to our comprehensive sex ed series, The Box,” said xHamster. “We’ve been working on The Box since last year, producing videos based on questions submitted by porn viewers.”

Utahans are being served with a popup reading, “Can we turn the thirstiest state in the nation into the smartest?” (A 2009 report found that Utah ranked No. 1 in subscriptions to porn sites.) Visitors redirected to the not at all explicit The Box can find videos like “the secret to anal sex” and ask questions like “How do you have an orgasm” instead of getting an eyeful of porn. As the site explained, “While we love porn, we don’t think that it should be relied on for sex ed any more than Star Wars is a substitute for science class.” May the force be with you, xHamster.

Virginia Lawmakers Claim Porn Leads to Orgies

best_phone_sex_niteflirt_orgyYou’ve heard the claim that marijuana is a gateway drug, but have you ever heard that porn is a gateway—to orgies? If you’re a Virginian, you might have: the lawmakers there are jumping on the anti-porn legislation bandwagon in a way that’s even strange for these hysterical pearl-clutchers. Apparently, they think that not only is pornography harmful and toxic, but it also leads to an increased risk of—oh, the humanity!—having group sex.

The Virginia House recently passed the resolution, which will go to the Senate, warning about somehow pernicious porn-fueled orgies: “use of pornography, by either partner, is linked to an increased likelihood that individuals will engage in group intercourse.” As Daily Dot explains, “The implication being both that porn causes group intercourse and also that group intercourse is somehow a problem.” Not surprisingly, the resolution’s supporters are not able to provide any evidence that there is in fact a porn-orgy link, but even if they did, wouldn’t that just make porn even more appealing?
