Hugh Hefner’s legacy lives on in the form of one of his most prized possessions: the original Playboy with Marilyn Monroe on the cover. The auction site Julien’s is selling off Hefner’s personal copy of the first-ever issue of Playboy featuring a nude Marilyn Monroe, and it’s expected to sell for anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000. Monroe first posed nude for the photos in 1949 “when she was desperate for a $50 paycheck.”
Several years later, Hefner bought the photos for $500 and published them in 1953 in the first issue of Playboy. The issue sold almost 50,000 copies and helped launch his empire. Not surprisingly, before Hefner died, he purchased the crypt next to Monroe’s for $75,000, and said, “I will be spending the rest of my eternity with Marilyn.”

Hugh Hefner, the figurehead of Playboy Magazine, died in 2017. But that doesn’t mean we’ll have access to any of his… umm, personal stash of raunchy material. According to The Daily Mirror, the nudie-mag magnate had all of his private tapes, pictures, and even personal notes from famous people thrown out at some point in the 1990s. That treasure trove of “intimate memorabilia” was discarded because much of the material was not just from the various photo shoots of Playboys past, but of famous people that had partied (or more) with him.
According to the source that spoke to The Sun, “Hugh explained that he didn’t want anyone’s lives, marriages or careers to be destroyed by what he had in his library,” consisting of pictures, 8mm and cinefilm videotape, and even audio recordings. So what did he do? From the same source, he had the entire collection dumped into the ocean in a concrete-lined coffin. If any of the stuff survived the dive, imagine being the lucky diver that finds THAT treasure trove!

Hugh Hefner died on Wednesday, September 27, aged 91. We here at the NiteFlirt blog usually keep things light, with fun stories and joke lists and whatnot, but Hef was a pioneer for free speech and sexual expression in the United States. And Playboy wasn’t just a men’s magazine with sexy pictures and implied smoking-jacket-casual manhood; it left a mark (or burn mark, depending on your personal ethics) on the landscape of American culture.
Playboy launched and solidified artists and writers like Ray Bradbury and Kurt Vonnegut Jr. It provided in-depth insight into the US and world economies. The women featured in its pages were launched into the public eye, and a few like Pam Anderson and Jenna Jameson were launched into the friggin’ stratosphere. Was it kitschy and misogynistic? Could easily be (and has often been) seen that way, but it did lend a hand in casualizing – normalizing – the thing that keeps our species making more of our species, as an unofficial godfather of the sexual revolution.
The original playboy himself wasn’t some saint, both standing up for LGBTQIA groups in the 1950s and civil rights in the 1960s while being accused of being a pimp (could be argued) and a corruptive influence on “the youth” (seriously, what impactful person HASN’T been accused of corruption of those nebulous “youth”?). But we here will remember him for his contributions to not only publishing, but enjoying a little sexy fun in private without a government hovering over our collective shoulders about it.
So our hats (and pants) off to the late head of the magazine that millions of growing teenagers hid under their beds, kept dads hiding that cardboard box in the back of the closet, and changed the USA one sticky-paged free speech fight at a time. Come celebrate the fun of that sexual revolution he embodied, right here at NiteFlirt, and keep the good times rolling!
Beloved long-time Playboy photographer Patrick Van Dam recently published a photographer book called Playboy Behind The Scenes. It’s a collection of images showing all the work that goes into an iconic Playboy spread. From the right lighting to positioning the centerfolds at the perfect angle, the pictures prove that it takes a dedicated team of people to make the erotic magic happen.
As Beautiful Decay pointed out, the pictures show the calculated reality of making beautiful people even more beautiful. Hugh Hefner himself wrote in Van Dam’s book, “In these compelling images, Patrick has captured the soul of the Playboy shoot and offered a true celebration of, and homage to, the people who make these beautiful things happen. Vividly here is the intimacy, the fun, and the dedication it takes to create the very best in contemporary erotica.” You can see photographers getting very up close and personal with the models (in one picture, a photographer literally has his camera between a centerfold’s spread legs!). There’s a person who positions the model’s hands in very erroneous places, and one who sprinkles water onto a nude model crawling along the sand on all fours. Now that’s dedication!

Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett, former Playboy bunny and girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, made headlines recently when her husband and NFL player, Hank Baskett, was caught cheating on her with a transsexual prostitute. On her reality show, Kendra on Top, Kendra accuses her husband of a transsexual fetish, and demands to know whether he likes women or men. She found out about his affair and kinky preference for transsexual women through the media, and it all came to a dramatic head with the cameras rolling.
Viewers of the show were just as shocked as Kendra to find out about Baskett’s transsexual fetish. And in this week’s explosive episode, a hurt and confused Kendra yelled, “Prove to me you don’t have a fetish. Prove to me that you didn’t pay a prostitute!” But Baskett wouldn’t deny that he got it on with a transsexual or that he has a fetish for transsexuals.

When women hit their 40’s they are placed into the “Cougar” category. Seasoned, sensual women who rightfully want to hit da’ club, wear what they want, and bone younger men. According to actress, Helen McCrory “More and more women are having relationships with younger men. It’s partly that women are not losing their figures now. They no longer feel it inappropriate to be sexual at 40 in the way many did 50 or 60 years ago.” I see women all the time that are 40+ that rock the apple bottoms, have abs of steel, and clearly have hearty sexual appetites. Bon appetite ladies!
McCrory currently plays a role where she is an older woman that is in love with a younger man, she believes this scenario is playing out more in real life.
Unfortunately there is a lingering stigma surrounding older women preying on the youthful bologna pony, even though it’s pretty standard these days to see a 50-year-old man with a 30- year- old women. A few examples come to mind: Alec Baldwin, Kelsey Grammar, Hugh Hefner, and the King of young peach, George Clooney. These dudes are praised and it’s considered normal. On the flipside Demi Moore received less than favorable media for dating a younger man. McCrory shares my sentiments and states there is a “deeply sexist” attitude towards the cougars from their male peers that are in the same position. Haters gonna hate but I say to the cougars, “GET SOME!” Do you agree that age ain’t nothing but number?
