Sexually Active Older Adults Seem To Be Smarter, According To Research

And now a recent study suggests that sex is especially good for older adults—particularly their cognitive functioning. The study recruited frisky older people, aged 50 to 83, and asked them questions about their sexual activity. Then it measured how well they performed on cognitive tests.

According to the study, when the older folks performed tests related to attention, memory, and other cognitive functions, “the ability to articulate oneself, and the ability to determine how objects relate to each other in space increased the more people performed sexual acts,” reports Gizmodo. The study has even more credibility because it’s a replication study of another performed last year by the same team. So there you have it, grandmas and grandpas—getting it on makes you smarter!

At 85-years-old, sex worker Sheila Vogel-Coupe gives new meaning to the phrase “the world’s oldest profession.” She’s part of a new documentary called My Granny the Escort airing on the BBC that goes inside the small but surprisingly bustling world of “mature escorts” aged 60 and up. The documentary follows three women whose Johns run the gamut of ages, professions, and kinks, including 20-year-old boys, 30-year-old Swedish businessmen, and 80-year-olds looking for some grown-up action. And one vivacious lady services around 100 men a month and works six days a week!

Sheila, who bills herself as “Britain’s oldest prostitute” and charges around 250£ an hour, says “I know I’m very, very sexy.” Often, young men seek her services—and she’s only too happy to oblige! One of her clients says of his preference for mature ladies: “They’re confident. They know their own bodies…It’s almost, for me, a bit perverse, like ‘Women of that age shouldn’t be doing this.’ That’s different, isn’t it? They’re batting outside what is kind of expected of a grown-up lady and that… that’s naughty.” The women all love what they do, and as single, independent women they’re all happy to “have a boyfriend for an hour…That’s enough. No dirty socks to wash.”
