It turns out watching David Attenborough documentaries offers a more “exciting” kind of entertainment than people originally thought. A new study found that Planet Earth and Blue Planet could improve viewers’ sex lives by helping them to have “a more compassionate view of their body.” The study’s authors from the University of Cambridge said, “Views of rivers and trees are devoid of materialism and so allow the viewer respite from thoughts of image.”

Researchers believe watching nature documentaries could be a low cost alternative to promoting better sex, especially for folks who don’t live near natural environments. This also supports an earlier study that suggests people have sex more often if they are confident in their own skin. But researchers warn that watching images of nature might not work in the right environments: “If we watch Springwatch on the sofa whilst at the same time checking our Twitter feed, it’s possible the natural scenes might not have the same immersive effect.”

Wearing a crown and red velvet king’s costume, the King of Condoms teaches people about “the need for safe sex.” He gives condoms to everyone he meets—young women, sex workers, men having sex with men—demonstrating how to use them with dildos and models of vaginas that he designed himself. “The community has really embraced the discussion,” he says, adding that he’s proud to have sexually empowered so many people. New Documentary Goes Inside Fetish World of Competitive Tickling

The new documentary Tickled proves that there are still some fetishes so niche, so strange that even the most savvy internet user may not have heard of them. The documentary went so far inside the strange fetish world of competitive tickling that the director got slapped with a defamation lawsuit from his subjects. He was also told by Jane O’Brien Media, the company who makes the tickle fetish videos, that the company would not associate with him because he’s gay and male-on-male competitive tickling is an “exclusively heterosexual athletic endurance activity.” Strange as this all may seem, the documentary does not shame tickle fetishists. The must-see film can really only be described as “incredibly uncomfortable or intensely erotic.”

‘Porn to Be Free,’ the Documentary About Italian Porn as a Political Phenomenon

Porn to Be Free, a new documentary which premiered at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam, explores the political impact of Italian porn before the 1980s. Back then, porn became a symbol for sexual freedom and freedom of expression. In the documentary, filmmaker Carmine Amoroso focuses on “‘pioneers who fought for freedom of speech and sexual freedom through the right to make pornography’—pioneers like pornographers Lasse Braun, Riccardo Schicchi, Ilona Staller (Cicciolina), and Giuliana Gamba,” reports Vice.

Amoroso explains that porn in Italy reached its maximum impact when the Catholic Church was very powerful, from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. During the 60s, porn was illegal; even nude pics were banned. So one of the first Italian pornographers, Lasse Braun, decided that to make porn mainstream and thus eventually accepted into society, he had to bring it to TV. To do this, he needed to turn his porn stars into celebrities—adult film actors like Cicciolina and Moana Pozzi became overnight sensations. Italian porn was also fundamentally political in the way it depicted sex as natural and beautiful, an important part of the sexual revolution of the 60s and 70s. As Amoroso says, “porn is not just a performance, it is an ever-evolving language.” Right on!
