Katy Perry has finally decided to come clean about her erotic breakout song “I Kissed A Girl.” The pop singer, who was just 23-years-old when she recorded the hit, has long denied that it was based on her own sexual experiences in real life—until now. Finally, the former Christian pop star has revealed that the catchy tune was actually inspired by real events in her own sex life as a young woman.
Perry told an audience at the Human Rights Campaign recently that not only did she actually “kiss a girl and like it,” but “Truth be told, I did more than that.” She added that while the song is based on true events, it is a “fantasy” painted into a pop tune. As a gospel singer raised in “youth groups that were pro conversion camps” she struggled with her own sexual desires toward other women: “What I did know was that I was curious, and even then I knew that sexuality was not as black and white as this dress.” We say: do what you like, Katy Perry!
