Pornhub Claims Meta Allows Kim Kardashian’s Nudes While ‘Censoring’ Sex Workers

Pornhub is calling out Instagram and Meta for their contradictory enforcement of the no-nudity policy. The porn mega-site and a group of sex workers claim that Instagram tolerates racy pictures from celebrities like Kim Kardashian while unfairly “censoring” the porn industry. The group accused Instagram in a letter of doing “violent and profoundly damaging” harm to the porn industry by selectively enforcing its content moderation rules.

“We demand an explanation and guidance as to why our accounts are continuously deleted, and why content we spend money creating in order to engage with our audience is removed, even when we do not breach any of Instagram’s rules,” Pornhub and the porn stars wrote. The letter comes weeks after Instagram permanently disabled Pornhub’s official account, which had more than 13 million followers. Though Pornhub claims that it never violated Instagram’s community guidelines, a Meta spokesperson said that Pornhub had repeatedly violated the app’s rule against “sexual solicitation,” which the spokesperson said includes encouraging users to leave Instagram and visit a porn site.

Instagram Bans Popular Pole-Dancer After New Sex Policies

The recent abrupt ban of a popular pole dancing teacher and blogger has reignited fury about Instagram and other social media’s enforcement of questionable “sexual solicitation” policies. Many activists and sex workers are saying that the company’s new terms of use further restricting sexually explicit content has gone too far. As a pole dancing teacher and blogger who has been using her Instagram account to network and spread her work for almost a decade, she has long been dealing with what many call “shadow bans.”

The pole-dancer tweeted that she believes she was unfairly targeted after posting a petition, titled “Instagram, stop unfairly censoring nudity and sexuality,” which collected 120,000 signatures. Activists claim the sex polices have alienated sex workers, but also those who publish content on sex education, or those with content that are deemed too sexually explicit, such as pole dancing or strip teasing. “This policy disproportionately affects sex workers, who are working online during the pandemic, but also creators posting nudity and sexuality, which may be mistaken for soliciting,” she wrote in a post speaking out about the unfair ban of her account.

New Social Network Welcomes Sexual Content

There’s now an answer to the problem sex workers have faced on social media: Lips, a new social network that welcomes free sexual expression. Founder Annie Brown and her team want users — sex workers, erotic artists, queer people, activists, and more — to post without fear of censorship or harassment. Mainstream social networks like Facebook and Instagram have a strict no-nudity policy, while Tumblr banned adult content in 2018 after being a beacon for sex/sexuality education and porn gifs.

“If someone’s being deplatformed, or before they’re deplatformed, or they feel like social media is a mental strain on them, that they’ll know the name Lips and that they’ll be able to come to us and have this space where they can finally be themselves without fear of trolling or bias censorship,” Lips says. The progressive social network is based around consent: users choose what content they want and don’t want to see. Trolls aren’t allowed on Lips—everyone who wants to post on Lips needs to be approved, and the application process is meant to “scare off” some of the trolls.

Automation “Error” Shuts Down Women Of Sex Tech Conference On YouTube

The Women of Sex Tech tried to host its first virtual conference—until YouTube abruptly shut it down. The Women of Sex Tech Virtual Conference 2020 included panels discussing the EARN IT Act, abortion access during the COVID-19 pandemic, online dating as a digital sexual abuse survivor, and fostering erotic mindfulness with one’s body during social isolation. None of the event material violated YouTube’s nudity and sexual content policies, which ban “explicit content meant to be sexually gratifying,” including pornography and nudity.

Women of Sex Tech President said, “The video cut off saying that it had been removed for violating community guidelines. I was so confused, I thought it had to be a glitch considering there was no mention of sex or adult content at that time.” YouTube eventually said that removals of the streams were mistakes by YouTube’s automated content moderation system, but the Women of Sex Tech were skeptical. Women of Sex Tech’s President said, “community members often find their accounts are inexplicably deleted, refused advertisement, or not able to use payment processors, among many other issues. It’s well-documented that sex workers, adult creators, and sex tech innovators have faced censorship on other social media platforms.”

Delta Restores Same-Sex Love Scenes To ‘Booksmart’ And ‘Rocketman’

2900305586_530cf11668_oAfter massive online backlash, Delta Air Lines is restoring the original versions of Booksmart and Rocketman for in-flight viewing. Booksmart’s director, Olivia Wilde, wrote on Twitter, “They muted or cut the word ‘vagina.’ VAGINA. They removed Molly’s entire scissoring sequence. They cut Molly’s masturbating story. They cut the porn moment in the Lyft.”

According to a response from Delta, the airline uses a third party company that censors films based on what it deems inappropriate. In the case of several films, that appears to be any mention of an LGBTQ relationship or female pleasure. Delta was quick to apologize, promising that this would not happen again.

Conservative College Men Campaign For Porn Censorship

readingConservative college men at a handful of campuses across the country are calling for a ban on porn. The campaign, launched by students at Notre Dame, has since spread to Harvard University, Princeton University and University of Pennsylvania, according to Inside Higher Ed. Their goal is to ban porn from campus WiFi by installing filters similar to once recently implemented by Starbucks, McDonalds and Panera—even though students can easily stream porn from their phones by using data or access porn via a private WiFi network.

“Pornography is the new sex education, providing a disturbing script about what men find sexually appealing and what women should do to please them,” said the campaign’s lead writer. “Notre Dame’s sincere efforts to educate students about consent and other aspects of healthy sexuality are pitifully weak in light of the fact that by the time students arrive on campus, many have been addictively watching pornography for years.” As others have pointed out, not all porn perpetuates objectification of women, especially feminist-porn made by and for women. It’s also not clear why a handful of young, conservative males feel they’re the right people to lead this conversation.

Twitter Loves Porn and Porn Loves Twitter

270833119_0d8840e498_zAfter the recent Ted Cruz scandal in which his Twitter account “liked” a porn video, a lot of people learned a dirty little secret: you can watch porn on Twitter. While free internet porn is readily available, when it comes to social media Twitter is the only site that allows hardcore pics, gifs and trailers. Porn stars, who rely on social media to gain fans and market themselves, love Twitter for this reason.

“It’s allowed me to build a following in countries that don’t allow their citizens to access regular porn sites. You won’t believe how many fans I have in India and Saudi Arabia,” says porn star Tanya Tate. Admittedly, there is a sort-of gray area with Twitter’s acceptable use policy, where the company will often flip-flop on allowing adult content. But for now, the freedom Twitter offers stars and fans by allowing them to interact like never before, is a win-win situation for everyone.

New Video Game Lets You Cruise For Gay Sex In Public Bathrooms

bieberA new video game allows users to pick up guys at urinals to get it on. According to the game’s designer, players cruising for simulated sex in public restrooms is both an erotic and a political act. He says he ultimately decided to make the game not only for the naughty sex but also because he’s “interested in the politics of sex ― who is allowed to have it, where, when, how, why.”

In the past, the platform which hosts his projects banned his work from the site for featuring male genitalia. As a result, the artist has replaced the dicks of the men in the game with giant guns—mainly as a way to give the middle finger to the site’s censorship rules. He wants those who play his game to enjoy the voyeurism of cruising for sex in public and to remember how central sex has always been to the idea of gay liberation.

U.K. Bill Proposes To Ban All ‘Non-Conventional’ Porn Online

britishunderwearThe U.K.’s new digital economy bill is a threat not only to citizen’s privacy, but also to their freedom to watch online porn. According to the Guardian, the bill would force internet service providers to censor sites hosting content that doesn’t meet the standards of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). This means that anything considered “non-conventional”—i.e., quite a lot of material, kinky and otherwise—could be prohibited.

The bill can ban any “obscene” material, such as “humiliation or abuse,” sexual portrayals of “lack of consent,” or anything classified as “adult-only.” And because it can put a ban on “non-conventional” sex, sex acts like “consensual spanking, whipping or other BDSM activities would be censored, as would fisting and urination, female ejaculation, or menstruation,” reports the Guardian. Thankfully, because there are so many adult sites, the ban would be difficult if not impossible to enforce. As a spokeswoman for MindGeek told the Guardian, “many of the sexual activities prohibited from R18 are normalised and accepted aspects of healthy sexuality, and are proudly celebrated by the feminist, queer, and ethical porn movements internationally.” It’s frightening to think that those are the sites that would be most at risk.
