Beloved long-time Playboy photographer Patrick Van Dam recently published a photographer book called Playboy Behind The Scenes. It’s a collection of images showing all the work that goes into an iconic Playboy spread. From the right lighting to positioning the centerfolds at the perfect angle, the pictures prove that it takes a dedicated team of people to make the erotic magic happen.
As Beautiful Decay pointed out, the pictures show the calculated reality of making beautiful people even more beautiful. Hugh Hefner himself wrote in Van Dam’s book, “In these compelling images, Patrick has captured the soul of the Playboy shoot and offered a true celebration of, and homage to, the people who make these beautiful things happen. Vividly here is the intimacy, the fun, and the dedication it takes to create the very best in contemporary erotica.” You can see photographers getting very up close and personal with the models (in one picture, a photographer literally has his camera between a centerfold’s spread legs!). There’s a person who positions the model’s hands in very erroneous places, and one who sprinkles water onto a nude model crawling along the sand on all fours. Now that’s dedication!
