Art Installation Asks People To Find The Clit On A Giant Pussy

Move over monoliths depicting giant wooden dicks, now there’s a giant pussy in Brazil. The sculpture is of a bright red vulva nestled into a hill in an art park in Brazil’s Mata Sul Pernambucana, according to a Facebook post by the artist, Juliana Notari. The title of the work is Diva and it is a crevice, dug into the dirt “measuring 33 meters high, by 16 meters wide and 6 meters deep” covered in concrete and resin.

Notari also explained on her Facebook post that the sculpture was intended to inspire a dialogue on “issues that refer to gender issues from a female perspective”—mainly, the issue of finding the clit. Brazil’s conservative president and noted hater of art Jair Bolsonaro has not commented on the enormous pussy. This giant pussy sculpture should be required viewing—though it’s hard to miss!

There’s A Mysterious Dick Monolith In Germany

A mysterious monolith in Utah has been in headlines lately, but now there’s another monolith that’s also, ahem, popped up. A wooden “phallus sculpture” was erected (pun intended) on a mountainside in Germany several years ago, which disappeared mysteriously before being replaced in recent days. The new dick is framed by two oblong wooden testicles and is taller than its predecessor but of similar girth.

The original dick appeared on Greuenten Mountain years ago and quickly became a tourist attraction. It is unclear how the big dick got there, but the local lore is that it was placed there by a family who received it as a gift but did not want it and left it in the woods. We can definitely see the appeal: who doesn’t love a huge cock in the middle of an idyllic, snow-capped mountain?

Artist Hosts Sex Doll Funerals For Heartsick Owners

NYC Sex Workers’ Pop-Up

Sex workers in New York City took their message to the streets with the Sex Workers’ Pop-Up, which showcases art by activists who are demanding the decriminalization and destigmatization of the sex work industry. The pop-up puts authentic sex workers’ stories on display, bringing the underground nature of sex work out into the public arena as a way to show that “sex work is work.” The art raises awareness about the issues that sex workers face from not having legal rights or workers benefits.

There’s also a room full of red umbrellas, which has symbolized the beauty and strength of sex workers’ rights since 2010. The banner shows two women in bed (the full version is a masturbation scene), one has a bare breast but no nipples showing, but it’s unclear what action is taking place. “If you have a suggestive banner, PLEASE CHANGE IT—Maybe I’m stupid but I thought twitter’s NSFW policy meant no explicit nudity in your profile, but it’s really vague, and too much titty could get your account banned,” the artist tweeted.

After three appeals, Twitter decided the account “does not appear to be in violation of the Twitter Rules” after all, and the permanent suspension was reversed. Twitter’s safety team is notorious for its vague moderation policies: “Twitter really doesn’t protect anyone in my field, it truly sucks,” the artist said. “Not just artists, but anyone creating any kind of queer erotica, writers and sex workers and all.” She adds, “It’s just that the [terms of service] is SO vague about what is or is not considered NSFW, it makes it very hard to know sometimes what is OK and what’s not.”

Cuba’s First ‘Sex Shop’

imageA pop-up sex store in Cuba is pushing back against the Communist-run country’s ban on selling sex toys. The pop-up includes handcrafted dildos and other supposedly “taboo” sex toys. While Cubans pride themselves on being very sexually liberal, many are close-minded regarding sex toys, according to the sex toy pop-up’s artists.

The distribution of anything deemed obscene is banned in Cuba, and there are no sex shops or licenses available to sell sex toys, leaving Cubans with no other choice than to import toys in their suitcases and sell them in secret. For the pop-up, the artists created translucent “phallic sculptures” in an array of colors from pink to green, some containing wordplay on official Cuban slogans like “Until Victory, Always.” Scarce and expensive resources in Cuba meant they had to use entwined fish line for whips and resin for dildos. “We want to break the taboos,” said the artists. “In the rest of the world, this is normal now.”

She pushes back against religious notions of controlling women’s bodies and sexuality. In exchange for the purity rings, the pastor sends a silicone “impurity” ring and a “Certificate of Impurity.”
